THE FESTIVAL OF ECONOMICS IN THE STREETS

23/04/2009

Workshops, games, meetings and cultural events
There is something for all ages and all tastes in the heart of Trento

Alongside the many meetings and discussions in the scientific programme, the fourth Festival of Economics in Trento will offer a wealth of events for adults and children, taking place in the squares and streets of the historic centre of the city.

The base camp for the Festival will be set up in Piazza Duomo, which will act as a fundamental point of reference, where "friends of the squirrel" can obtain directions and informative material, as at the other three info points. They will also find  the Festival bookshop here, along with a corner dedicated to satire, with cartoonists, artists and humorists, who will interpret this year's theme with creativity. In the same square, the Cooperative Sociale Coccinella will organise a small market at the end of the Festival, where children can swap games, books, comics and other objects brought from home, having fun and at the same time learning the basic concepts of economics.

Piazza Fiera will be transformed into the alternative economy showcase, offering models for a sustainable market that respects both environment and people. Meetings for all tastes are planned, covering issues from consideration of fair trade purchasing groups  to debates on networks of fair trade economics in Italy and in Trentino. There will be food workshops, a bio-refreshments stand with organic products from Trentino and fair trade products. Other initiatives include  “Rudolf Steiner school: an open lesson for the public” organised by the Associazione Pedagogica Steineriana di Trento and “Beating the crisis using your brain: ALTRACARD, organised by Bilanci di Giustizia .
Piazza Fiera will also be a reference point for those wishing to visit the Festival by bike. Here the Festival bike stop will be set up, with free hire of bicycles, while the by now famous " Festival bike ride" will also start from here.
Finally it should not be forgotten that a giant screen will be set up in this square, with live broadcasting of the most important events.

Piazza Cesare Battisti will be dedicated to in-depth reflection and information of various kinds. Here the  "friends of the squirrel" can find a very special meeting place: the "Languages Café”, where there will be around twenty tables equipped with computers, playing host to researchers and university students from different countries, who will share their experience and culture with visitors.
A wooden cube with information booths will instead make up CO2rner, a stand also equipped with a video box, dedicated to consideration of issues related to protection of the climate and the environment. Here "An eye on the Festival", a video-photographic laboratory by the students of MIDE “don Milani - F. Depero” further education institute in Rovereto will also take place.

There will be a range of workshops, games and experiments in the Festival programme of events for younger visitors.
In the Courtyard of Palazzo Thun there will be space for the workshops of the Cooperativa sociale la Coccinella, where children will be able to have fun constructing unusual objects – for example a miniature model of their own ideal world, armed with glue, scissors and materials of every kind.
There will also be space to give free rein to the imagination in Piazza Cesare Battisti. The Gioco del Lotto will organise workshops such as “Inventajob think tank” and “Creapublicity”, where children will invent imaginary jobs and fanciful adverts, thus exploring the world of adults in an easy and entertaining way. The Gioco del Lotto has also organised a meeting with Fabrizio Galimberti entitled “Economics explained to teenagers”.
There will also be workshops dedicated to younger visitors  at the Festival in Piazza Fiera, organised by the Associazione Pedagogica Steineriana di Trento and by the Museo Tridentino di Scienze Naturali. Finally, there will be space and time for a break with a fair trade/organic snack for children at the bio-refreshments point.

There will also be a wealth of cultural events, with exhibitions, concerts, films and performances. Many of these reflect on the significance and role of identity in contemporary society. Aspart – galleristi trentini for example, has organised “Identity”, an exhibition set up in Palazzo Trentini, where Leonida Deflippi, Marco Fantini, Fulvio De Pellegrin and Zanele Muholi will show their works.
At Teatro Cuminetti on 31 May there will be “Fluidentity” a conference and performance by the anthropologist Duccio Canestrini dedicated to the process of constructing identity in contemporary society. An identity which is inevitably dynamic, changing and in many ways fragile.Workshops, games, meetings and cultural events
