Professor in Economics at the University of Amsterdam. Formerly visiting professor at numerous universities, his research interests focus on the economics of political choices, experimental economics, behavioural economics and neuro-economics (emotions and limited rationality). He writes for prestigious scientific journals, such as the “Economic Journal”, “The Journal Public Economics”, and the “European Economic Review”. His publications include: The political economy of government debt, with H. A. A. Verbon, North-Holland (1993) and Experimenteel onderzoek naar het Plan Van Elswijk, with A. Riedl, J. Wit en F. van Dijk, Universiteit van Amsterdam (1999).
