Managing Director of Unifortune Asset Management, he is honorary professor at Zhongshan University in Guangzhou, China and Advisor to the Institute of Contemporary Finance, Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, China. He previously worked at the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. He chairs the so-called "Giovannini Group", a group of European Commission advisors dealing with problems linked to the financial markets. He is the author of books and scientific articles on the subject of monetary economics. His publications include: Finance and Development: Issues and Experience, Cambridge University Press (1993).
