An old and prestigious residence of the Prince-Bishops of Trento (from the first half of the 13th century up to 1796) and once the administrative headquarters of the Trentino principality, Buonconsiglio Castle is currently the most important museum of ancient, medieval and modern art in the region. It contains extremely prestigious historic and artistic exhibits, the most important relating to international gothic style: on the walls of the Torre Aquila, there are frescoes by Venceslao (end of the 14th century), with a magnificent representation of eleven months of the year (March does not appear). The museum holds annual temporary exhibitions of international importance. From 1985 to 2003 the Marangonerie hall housed the Trento History Museum. Currently, in addition to the bookshop, an information point has been set up in the hall to provide information about the four branches of the museum. The size of the hall allows it to be used for conferences and meetings, as well as acting as an exhibition space for temporary exhibitions.
